August 23 was the perfect day to kick off a new academic year with one of our favorite traditions: the MFIS Welcome Picnic. Under sunny skies, new international students gathered to meet one another, enjoy good food, and experience a classic American picnic.
“August 23 turned out to be a beautiful day for a Welcome Picnic. The students arrived ready to meet other new students and to enjoy an American picnic. They had fun playing games and learning about Wisconsin cheese. A HUGE thank you to all of our volunteers who helped to make it another successful picnic!”— Nancy Graff Schultz, Picnic Coordinator
Highlights from the Day
New connections: Students from around the world mingled, laughed, and began building friendships.
Fun and games: Lawn games brought out plenty of smiles (and a little friendly competition). Highlights of the day? Perhaps the student volunteers who had to try to land a piece of Wisconsin cheese from their forehead in their mouths without the use of their hands.
Community spirit: The event wouldn’t have been possible without the energy and kindness of MFIS volunteers.
A Heartfelt Thank You
A special thank you to our volunteers, who welcomed students with warmth and made the day run smoothly. Your support helps create a community where international students feel at home from the very beginning.
We can’t wait to see what the year ahead brings!
